The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show's (MIFGS) future maybe in doubt, why, a small number of people have protested to the City of Melbourne. This small group has been vocal enough for the City of Melbourne and some Councillors to listen and may force this event to close. This small group do not care about the garden show but are pushing Council to move or close it down, they do not want it in Carlton Gardens.

Over 100,000 people visit the show each year and enjoy it. The Great Hall of the Royal Exhibition Buildings and Carlton Gardens fit perfectly for hosting a major flower and garden show. A show to spend many hours enjoying the flowers and plants, the landscape gardens, the many associated accessories for the garden.

Approx 15% of visitors are from interstate and overseas. Economic benefit to Melbourne, shopping, accommodation, meals, transport, annually over $10 Million.

MIFGS is ranked in the top four garden shows in the world.
